Appears from risidual carbon dust and inside draw ink staining to have been used by a calligrapher. Locking side draws indicate important items intended to be secured. Original Paint and Wrought Iron Hardware. Latched lid works fine with push button that pushes sping catch back from hasp. Side drawers open and fit fine but keys are lost for the drawer lock sets.
Side drawers are constructed by using small dowel joinery. Box is constructed using overlap boards at corner joinery. Looking at bottom and drawers, wood appears to be a Japanese Pine.
One split on bottom of box which was never painted andoccurred from wood drying. Some Japanese characters are written in charcoal on side of one draw. Need more pictures, just ask! WE USUALLY LIST 500 UNIQUE ITEMS. We will not honor these requests.
